Flooded Town Reappears

In 1985 the town of Potosi, Venezuela was flooded to make way for the Uribante Reservoir hydroelectric project. Now the area is suffering from a severe drought and the town has reappeared as reservoir levels drop.

Early results in the Utica Shale Gas Play in Quebec, Canada has wells producing over 10 million cubic feet of gas per day. Some believe that the play could contain over 20 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

DNA Evidence Links Caribou Migration and a Volcanic Eruption

The White River tephra is an ashfall produced by an eruption of Mount Churchill Volcano that blanketed much of east-central Alaska and adjacent parts of Canada about 1000 years ago. DNA evidence from frozen caribou remains links a large migration to the eruption.

The Chemistry of Ancient Seawater

“The chemical composition of our oceans is not constant but has varied significantly over geological time. In a study published in the February 26, 2010 edition of Science, researchers describe a novel method for reconstructing past ocean chemistry using calcium carbonate veins that precipitate from seawater-derived fluids in rocks beneath the seafloor.”

The Natural Gas Act

How Rare Are Sauropod Dinosaur Skulls?

BYU researchers have found the first complete sauropod skulls known from the Cretaceous of the Western Hemisphere in Dinosaur National Monument in eastern Utah.
