You Don’t Have Earthquake Coverage

Out of nearly 6000 homes damaged by the August 23 earthquake in Virginia , only a few percent will be covered by earthquake insurance. A bill in the Virginia legislature, if passed, will require insurance companies to notify all homeowners who have purchased a homeowners insurance policy that does not cover earthquakes.

Oklahoma: M5.6 Earthquake

A Magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred in central Oklahoma yesterday (November 5 at 10:53 PM local time). Numerous buildings sustained minor damage but no deaths were reported. A portion of the USGS “did you feel it?” map is shown below.

Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake in Turkey

USGS reports that a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred in eastern Turkey at 1:41 PM local time. CNN reports that several buildings have collapsed in Van Province.
