Banning Hydraulic Fracturing Where It Will Never Be Used

Although New Jersey has no natural gas or oil production the State Legislature passed a ban on hydraulic fracturing . (A small area in the northwestern corner of the state is above the Utica Shale which may have been to intensely heated to contain oil or gas.)

Hydraulic Fracturing Proppants are in Short Supply

An article on Bloomberg.com reports that the proppants used in hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells are in short supply. Proppants are tiny particles such as ceramic or aluminum beads that are injected into a well to hold artificial fractures open. It is not unusual for a hydraulic fracturing job to require a million pounds of proppants.
