You Don’t Have Earthquake Coverage

Out of nearly 6000 homes damaged by the August 23 earthquake in Virginia , only a few percent will be covered by earthquake insurance. A bill in the Virginia legislature, if passed, will require insurance companies to notify all homeowners who have purchased a homeowners insurance policy that does not cover earthquakes.

Note: The National Flood Insurance Program is over $17 billion in debt because it pays out more than it collects.

Jersey City Zoning vs Natural Gas Pipeline

Jersey City passed a zoning ordinance to ban a proposed natural gas pipeline from crossing the city. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission says that a city can not use zoning ordinances to block interstate commerce.

Close Call With An Undiscovered Asteroid

On November 6, 2009 an asteroid about 20 feet across streaked between Earth and the Moon, missing our planet by a mere two Earth radii. The asteroid was not discovered until it was just 15 hours from potential impact.
