The Most Powerful Eruption of the 20th Century

A little less than 100 years ago, Novarupta, a volcano in Alaska, produced what is believed to be the most powerful volcanic eruption of the 20th Century. “People in Juneau, Alaska, about 750 miles from the volcano, heard the sound of the blast – over one hour after it occurred.”

Will Low Prices Cause Gas Wells to Be Shut-In?

Will natural gas companies shut-in some of their wells in response to low gas prices ? A Reuters article reports that Exxon does not plan to shut in the former XTO Energy wells but ConocoPhillips has shut-in some wells. There are a number of reasons why some companies do not shut-in wells. These include: the possibility of even lower prices in the future, difficulty restarting the well and obtaining original production levels, long-term supply agreements and more. The Coldest Decade in the Past 500 Years

A previously unknown volcanic eruption in 1809 kicked off the coldest decade in the past 500 years. This eruption was larger than the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo and was followed in 1815 by the eruption of Tambora.
