Cleveland Volcano Alert Levels Now Orange and Watch

“Observations of Cleveland Volcano from Tuesday September 6, 2011 show that the small lava dome in the summit crater has resumed growth and now fills the floor of the crater. Volcanic Plume at Nabro Volcano

“The remote Nabro Volcano , along the border between Eritrea and Ethiopia, emitted a thick plume of volcanic gases on June 15, 2011. The Toulousse Volcanic Ash Advisory Center and the Joint Air Force & Army Weather Information Network reported that the plume rose to an altitude of 35,000 feet (11,000 meters), and consisted mainly of sulfur dioxide

Height of the Grimsvotn Ash Plume

“Grimsvotn, the most active of Iceland’s volcanoes , began erupting around 5:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, May 21, 2011. These images show the erupting volcano at 1:00 p.m. local time on Sunday May 22, 2011. This analysis places the maximum height of the plume at the time of overpass at about 46,000 feet (14 kilometers), which means that the ash has been injected into the stratosphere, the stratified portion of Earth’s upper atmosphere.” Quoted from the Earth Observatory image release.

Grimsovtn Volcano From Space

“The initial plume from Grímsvötn was higher than that from Eyjafjallajökull, which only reached 8 kilometers (5 miles). Despite its taller plume, Grímsvötn was expected to hamper trans-Atlantic air traffic less than Eyjafjallajökull had, at least in the first 24 hours.” Quoted from the Earth Observatory image release.

Philippines: Evacuations at Taal Volcano

Numerous earthquakes and water temperature changes in the crater lake indicate movement of magma below Taal Volcano in the Philippines . Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology maintains a Level 2 Alert (eruption is possible) for the volcano. Over 1000 people were told to evacuate on Sunday.

Eyjafjallajökull Volcano Continues to Stream Ash

“Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull Volcano continues to erupt a thick plume of ash.
